  3. Everything You Need to Know About the Curly Girl Method

Whether you are newly natural or you’ve been rocking your curls for years you’ve probably heard about “The Curly Girl Method,” (CG Method). Depending on who you talk to, you can hear all different types of opinions about the CG method.

I have naturalista’s who are so strict about following the Curly Girl Method, it’s almost like a religion. Even if they have amassed a couple hundred dollars on “non-CG” products, they will gladly throw all of their products away and start fresh instead of spending one more day with silicons.

Then there are other curlies, who think it’s all hype. Some have even tried the method for a week or two and found there were far too many rules and it took way too much time and energy to commit to the #CGlife.

I’m going to be honest with you.

I truly believe there is no one size fits all approach. Different strokes, for dif

  4. Should I Do a Big Chop?

It’s safe to safe that most naturalista’s start off their journey because they are determined to celebrate their beauty and lead a healthier lifestyle. Your kinks and curls are beautiful and deserve to be flaunted for all of the world to see.

However, if it’s one thing we all know, it’s that going natural can be intimidating. Some of us have been perming our hair since preschool. We honestly couldn’t even tell you what our actual hair looks like.

Can you imagine diving in, and not having any clue what you’ll look like. Not to mention, there is a lot of pressure to live up to this European standard of beauty.

Media is only recently getting on board with using more gorgeous black bod

  5. Cornrow Braids from Childhood to Adulthood and Using Them to Grow my Natural Hair

About a foot away from my desk, a picture of a young girl in braids hangs on the wall. She looks about seven years old. Like bangs, the braids are cascading towards her face and there’s a white and a red barrette hanging midway on two of the braids. Though I can’t see them, braids are also at the back of her head because against her little nape, I can see beads at the ends of her hair.

Hair grease and a kid in cornrows

The little girl that I see in the photo, that’s me. I was smiling from ear to ear. I doubt I was smiling about my hairstyle, but I was always happy to get braids. Nostalgia. I clearly remember how my mother would sometimes lay me down across her lap, horizontally, while she braided my hair. Something about that experience always made me fall asleep and when I woke; my hair was done and forehead slightly greasy. I haven’t smelled Royal Crown hair grease in so many years, but if I were greeted
